OAT Experience

I took the OAT in September and with only two months to prepare, I found many posts on SDN to be super helpful so I thought I'd share my experience for those that are also pressed on time with studying.

Study schedule:
For the first month of studying, I sat down for about 6 hours 4-5 days a week. For the last few weeks I had left, I felt unprepared so I studied 6-8 hours 6 days a week. I found it helpful to focus on one section for a week at a time. During my last week I reviewed all...

OAT: Disappointing Outcome

Hey guys! I took my OAT today and I was disappointed to say the least. I have been studying for about 3 months now and I thought I was progressing and I was confident in my abilities. However, while taking the OAT I came across many questions in the Chemistry portion that I had no idea how to do. Now Chem is normally a strong point for me so I don't know what else I can do to improve for when I retake my OAT. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I'm super nervous now! I...

Hi!

So I'm selling the OAT destroyer which comes with the big white book of QR, Orgo, Gen Chem, Bio and the small white book of physics. The OAT Destroyer has never been written in, brand new condition.
I also have the Princeton Review's Cracking the OAT - great for Physics. This book is also in great condition but has some notes in the margins on about 5-10 pages.

I'm willing to sell both together or separately.
Please message me if interested!

BIO INQUIRY - CLIFF'S VS. BARRON'S - THOSE WITH EXPERIENCE, PLEASE COMMENT

Those who have taken the OAT and have used Cliff's AP Bio and/or Barron's AP Bio, in your opinion, which book would you recommend if someone were to study Biology and what edition?

I've already used Cliff's (doesn't keep me engaged while studying, too specific and I analyze all the details since I'm analytical) + Ferrali's notes + DatQVault Bio. I've seen Barron's AP Bio (4th edition) and in my opinion, the book resembles Cliff's AP Bio. I'm trying to decide with which one to go with this...

Taking OAT end of January but do I still have a chance at NECO or SALUS?

I'm taking my OAT for the first time end of January(applying for the current 2015-2016 cycle) and am afraid this is considered to be super late in the admissions process. I will send in my application next week or so but am currently studying for the OAT. Did I completely mess up my chance of getting into NECO or SALUS now? I have a 3.8GPA and good extra curics but have this OAT hanging over my head :(

Canceling an Interview?

I have received an acceptance to a school that I would really like attending. I also have two school interviews currently scheduled. However, they are too far for me to go to knowing I have been accepted somewhere more convenient. I want to cancel my interview dates however I am not sure what the proper etiquette is. Should I call admissions, e-mail admissions. I am not sure.

Thanks

Hello all,
I liked reading about peoples OAT experiences before I took mine so I figured I would give back.
Basically I graduated in May and started studying a week after graduation for it. I was extremely nervous because it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and I felt a bit intimidated by it. I was an exercise science major and did not see myself as overly smart in the sciences. I only had about a 3.1 science GPA for the optometry school prerequisites. I studied until my test...

What are my chances of getting into Optometry School?

Hey guys! I was just wondering what your opinion was about my chances of getting into optometry school.

I'm an English major. My overall GPA was 3.55, but my science GPA is 3.12 I believe. I did have to retake a couple of classes. I had a really tough time with Organic Chemistry. I had to take it three times. The first time I got a C-, the second time I got D+, and I finally got a B the third time around. I have an F for Intro to Microbiology because I once I found out that it was the wrong...

How important is the QR score?

Okay so I took my OATs. My scores are:

Reading Comp - 400
Biology - 390
Gen Chem - 320
Orgo - 320
Physics - 320
QR - 270
TS - 340
AA - 340

So obviously I did not do well on QR. I just totally ran out of time did not pace myself well at all. I was just wondering if that QR score is going to like destroy my chances? I know the science part is more important and I also got a perfect score in reading so will that balance it out a bit? Thanks so much!

Just wanted to update you guys on the new policy for the OAT that was implemented August 2014.

When you submit your application to test for the OAT, you will be asked to select 5 schools that you wish to receive your OAT results. Once you select these schools and pay the fee of $330, you then CANNOT modify the schools you selected to receive your OAT results. If you do change your mind and want to modify or add another school to receive your OAT results, you must pay an extra fee of $33 for...

Don't think any of these exist for the OAT but they exist for MCAT/DAT e.t.c. Helpful little site I created with possible / similar OAT type questions you'd see. Will appreciate any helpful remarks (good or bad)!.

Retook OAT 2nd time and disappointed

I just took the OAT the second time (first time was in January) and got

QR 340 (330 first time)
RC 320 (300 first time)
BIO 290 (300)
GC 320 (340)
OC 320 (310)
Physics 300 (290)
TS 310 (300)
AA 320 (310)

Did only marginally better this time and actually did worse in bio and gen chem. I felt I studied a lot more (~4 months) and more extensively and used WAY more resources than the first time. I used Chads videos, princeton review, Kaplan, and Topscore where last time I only used a Princeton...

I just took them today and here are my very embarrassing scores..

Quantitative reasoning 300
Reading comprehension 320
bio 300
Ochem 270
Gchem 270
physics 300
total science 280
academic average 290

I know a lot of school's cutoff scores are 300 for both TS and AA.
I plan to take the exam again in March but that is too close to the deadline...or past deadline for some schools..sigh!!!

Should I go ahead and submit my scores as they are? Western said I could tell them to hold my...

OAT scores, advice please!

Hello! I took my OAT in Sept and was wondering if I could get advice on my scores and if I should retake it or not

QR 360
RC 330
BIO 360
GC 310
OC 340
PHY 340

TS 340
AA 340

As you can see my lowest is GC and i was wondering if one low category will be a problem even my other ones are somewhat high. A little more about me, I go to UVA, GPA is about 3.2 so my science GPA is most likely lower than that, and I would like to go to either SUNY or NECO. thanks!

Long Term Plan for Studying the OAT

I am currently a junior studying Psychology and I am planning on taking the OAT in mid-June/early July. However, since my science GPA isn't as high as I want it to be (3.08, due to receiving C's in Bio I and II, Chem II, and Orgo I), I'm starting earlier so I can get a better grasp of concepts and prepare myself better for the exam. I am aiming for 350-380. Does anyone have any suggestions on a long-term study plan for a current student with 17 credit hours? Should I study the OAT thrice a week...

OAT failures. Please provide advice!

Hey everyone. So, I just took my OAT exam for the 3rd time and just cannot seem to do well on it. The first time I took it I did not really study hard since I thought it was going to be everything I knew since I had just finished most of the subjects that were covered on the exam. The second time I studied a little bit more and still did not do that well. The past time I took it, I studied for two months for at least 3-4 hours every day, and even 6-10 hours on the weekends. I used the Kaplan...

I'm taking my first OAT in about a week and I received an email from SCO asking me to send them my unofficial score report once I receive. Just out of curiosity, what is on the unofficial score report? Just my OAT score and the schools I'm sending the scores to?
